FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Hampton, Virginia - June 5, 2010
TMG Founder and President, Joseph C. Barto III, presents the 2010 New Horizon Educational Center Honorariums at the 2010 Career and Technical Recognition Ceremony
On June 5, 2010 Joe Barto, Founder and President of TMG, Inc. presented the 2010 New Horizons Regional Education Center Honorariums at the annual Career and Technical Recognition Ceremony. Mr. Barto is a Director of the New Horizons Regional Education Center Foundation Board. In 2004, Mr. Barto created the Welder Honorarium Program and since then has grown the program to an annual endowment of $12,000 to twenty one winners in 2010. Since its inception, TMG has donated over $20,000 to this program. The Honorarium provides funds to graduates who are entering the workforce to defray the costs associated with full time employment-- like equipment, uniforms, reliable transportation and even fuel for that transportation. The criteria as set by Center reflect success in the workplace-productivity, attendance, accomplishment, leadership, and being a team player as defined by their instructor just as their performance on the job will be evaluated by their immediate supervisor.
During his remarks, Mr. Barto said, "Our setting is a great metaphor for our collective goal-young people doing productive work in full time jobs as quickly after graduation as possible. Today these young people will walk up this side of the stage just as they did four years ago when they started High School-they brought a lot of desire and a need to learn. It was our job as educators and those who support them, us on the stage and those wonderfully talented and committed instructors you will all meet very shortly, to provide them with the skills to pursue the career of their choice. Now and in a few days at their High School graduations they leave us as successful learners, off this side of the stage, and if we have done our jobs correctly into meaningful jobs putting those skills to work.
My best day is seeing young people excited about their future with a gleam in their eye and looking forward to what is arguably their best day-their first day on the job and beginning their lives as contributing Americans. Great day for me-better day for them... and not a bad day for us parents either.
